A brown suitcase with its label removed was discovered at Adelaide railway station on January 14th, 1949.
The suitcase was checked into the station cloakroom after 11 a.m. on November 30th, 1948.
The suitcase held mostly clothing and work tools; labels were removed from almost all the clothing.
Three objects carried variations of one name: “T. Keane” or “Kean.”
The suitcase contained no personal material other than unused airmail envelopes and loose change.

Then one thread from the suitcase matched a repair in a man's trousers.

His head rested against the seawall, legs extended, feet crossed, when police were called at 6:30 a.m.
His pockets held a rail ticket, a possibly unused bus ticket, an American comb, and gum.
An Army Club cigarette packet found in his pocket contained seven Kensitas cigarettes.
One couple saw the man's right arm extend fully, then drop limply beside him.
The pathologist placed death around 2 a.m.; tests found no foreign substance in his body.
In July 1949, Jessica Thomson denied knowing the man when police questioned her.

But detectives had missed one final pocket: inside it was the tiny “tamám shud” scrap.
