The Romanov family was executed early on July 17th, 1918.
After evacuation from Tobolsk, the family was held captive in Ekaterinburg.
Four were held with Romanovs: Dr. Eugene Botkin, Alexei Trupp, Anna Demidova, Ivan Kharitonov.
The Library of Congress account says leaders chose killing the Romanovs over risking capture.
Historical reports place the execution in the cellar of Ipatiev House.
The bodies were taken first to an abandoned mine shaft, then an open field.
Nine members were buried together, while two children were placed in a separate grave.
Within days, Admiral Alexander Kolchak's White Army entered Ekaterinburg.
On July 30th, 1918, Kolchak ordered a murder probe.
On February 6th, 1919, the case went to Nikolai Sokolov.
He questioned witnesses and gathered photos of servants, doctors, guards, soldiers.
Their tutor Sidney Gibbes knew the children before captivity. Maria remembered: I would happily stay in Tobolsk forever.
The Soviet government released nothing, while survival stories filled silence.
Yet the Library of Congress account finds no written evidence naming who ordered the murders.
The question remains open between Yakov Sverdlov and Vladimir Lenin.
